In The Cellar
2018 was a challenging vintage as it was one of the driest years, especially during the growth and ripening periods. However, with efficient use of irrigation water, we had healthy vineyards with limited incidences of pests, diseases or rot and managed to harvest good quality grapes with the wonderful intensity of colour and fruit flavour.
The Grapes
During this historic drought, we managed to irrigate sufficiently, control the pests and diseases throughout, ensuring that we harvest healthy, full ripe grapes with exceptional good colour in the red varieties and intense flavour in both our white and red cultivars. 221 Special Cuvée is made entirely from estate-grown grapes; hand-selected in the early morning to ensure that cool, optimally ripe bunches are delivered to the winery.
