This Slab of Seed will grow you 3 delicious heirloom gin herb varieties:

  • Cinnamon Basil is believed to have originated in Mexico, having grown there for over 4000 years. It has a spicy, fragrant aroma and flavour and contains methyl cinnamate, giving it a flavour reminiscent of cinnamon. Cinnamon basil has somewhat narrow, slightly serrated, dark green, shiny leaves with reddish-purple veins and produces small, pink flowers in summer. It grows to 30-80cm tall. It is hardier than many basil varieties and if your climate is mild enough for it to overwinter, then it can grow as a perennial herb (for more than one growing season). It's a wonderful botanical aromatic to pop into your gin glass with its bright green & purple leaves adding a fresh visual & flavour element
    • Tasting note: Hints of cinnamon & basil
  • Lemon Mint (Monarda citriodora) is also commonly known as Lemon Beebalm, Horsemint, or Lemon Mint. It is 30-60cm high and is an aromatic winter annual with unusual, tuft-like, lavender to pink, whorled flower heads. Several stems grow from the base and are lined with pairs of lance-shaped leaves. Lemon Mint or Horsemint has a distinctive citrus or lemony scent when the leaves are rubbed or crushed. It is very easy to grow and attracts bees and butterflies to your garden. Linnaeus named the genus Monarda in honour of a 16th-century Spanish physician and botanist, Nicolas Bautista Monardes (1493-1588). Monardes studied medicinal plants brought back to Spain from the New World. This delicious sweet, lemon flavour adds a fresh botanical flavour to your favourite gin
    • Tasting note: Citrus & lemon flavour
  • Star-flower Borage (Borago officinalis), an edible and ornamental plant with loose drooping clusters of starlike bright blue flowers is native to the eastern Mediterranean region. The beautiful blue star-like Borage flowers are attractive to bees and are a stunning garnish in your gin glass, giving it a lovely hint of melon & cucumber. Borage is a hairy annual and can grow up to 60cm tall. It features large rough oblong leaves that have a cool cucumber-like aroma and taste. The flowers are borne on red stalks and have five bright yellow stamens that form a cone
    • Tasting note: Hints of cucumber & melon

About Sow Delicious

In 2013, Vanessa Jacobs set out to find the simplest way to grow a garden fit for a foodie, giving people the opportunity to proudly plant a garden that is Sow Delicious! She came up with the idea for the ‘Slab of Seed’ which might look like a slab of chocolate, but is made from a special blend of organically enriched super-soil and infused with rare heirloom seed – the purest & oldest seed on earth which is also non-GMO. The slabs are handmade in a unique little chocolate factory in the heart of Eden in The Garden Route.
